CONSTITUTION – Central Safety Group

1.      Name:              Central Safety Group

2.      Aims:

(a)   Promote occupational health and safety knowledge and practice among members

(b)   Provide mutual support on OHS, through the sharing of information and knowledge

3.      Membership:    There shall be three forms of membership:
                        Individual
                        Corporate
                        Life

Individual membership

To become an individual member, the person must have a genuine interest in occupational health and safety. The person will submit an application form to the Executive, who will consider the application before the next meeting of the Group. If the application is approved, the individual will become a member by paying the annual fee. The decision to accept or reject an application will be final.

Corporate membership

To become a corporate member, the organisation must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in continuous improvement in occupational health and safety. The corporation will submit an application form to the Executive, who will consider the application before the next meeting of the Group. If the application is approved, the individual will become a member by paying the annual fee. The decision of the Executive to accept or reject an application will be final. Corporate membership will entitle the organisation to send up to two members, free of charge, to any of the Group’s event during the period of annual fee.

Life membership

A member can become a life member on the nomination of any three other members, and the agreement of those present at an annual general meeting. A life member will not have to pay an annual fee.

4.      Executive

There shall be an Executive composed of:

·         President

·         Vice President

·         Secretary

·         Treasurer

·         4 Committee members

Persons co-opted on the Executive by the Executive members. The Executive shall be elected or selected by those members present at an annual general meeting. The quorum for an executive meeting shall be: the President or Vice President plus at least half the membership of the Executive.

The President shall be responsible for calling all meetings, chairing all meetings, and authorising all events and authorising all communications of the Group. The Vice President shall take on the duties of the President in the absence of the President, unless the President deputises another member of the Executive.

The Secretary shall be responsible for advising members of meetings and events and assisting the President with correspondence of the Group.

The Treasurer will shall keep the financial books of the Group, operate all bank accounts of the group and produce annual accounts for the Group. The operation of all bank accounts will require the signature of the Treasurer and one other member of the Executive.

5.      Committees:    

The Executive may appoint and dissolve task-based Committees, responsible to the Executive, at any time.

6.      Meetings

 6.1                               Quorum:
The quorum for an ordinary meeting of the group shall be 6 people or 10% of the membership, whichever is the less.

 6.2                               Meeting activities and events:
It is an objective of the CSG to promote education and sharing of OH&S information by:

1.         inviting specialists and representatives from related spheres to speak at meetings;

2.         running of events such as site tours or visits;

3.         sharing of ideas and successes through various media;

4.         creating a constructive relationship with WorkSafe Victoria and facilitating two way interaction between WorkSafe and members.

 6.3                               Meetings will generally be held on the second Tuesday of each month, excluding January, or as required from time to time.

 6.4                               One month’s notice of the date of Annual General Meetings shall be communicated to all financial members.

7.      Fees:

The annual fees will be set by the Executive in the last meeting of the year – for the next calendar year.

8.      Alteration of this constitution:

This constitution can be altered by a simple majority attending an annual general meeting.

9.      Dissolution:

The group can be dissolved on the resolution of three quarters of the membership. Any monies left over shall be donated to like minded organisations who promote health and safety.
